Garden of Unearthly Delights

GARDEN OF UNEARTHLY DELIGHTS, 2011 | printed matter | 400 x 400 mm

Partly re-collaged from an earlier collage this work formed part of an interactive piece called Exorcise Bike – The idea being that, as you pedaled, you exorcised your demons. The collage, which formed a screen at the front of the bike, would illuminate, when the bike was pedaled, revealing hidden texts within it. The imagery, which for example combines Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly Delight’s with food photography from recipe books from the 1970’s such as Fanny and Jonnie Craddock’s Cookery Programme, presents the grotesqueness of our consumptive lives. The bike was later dismantled and the collage mounted on a mirror, preempting a new series – Mirages (mirror/collages).
