Dust Breeding is a nod to Man Ray’s 1920 photograph, titled Elevage de Poussière – Bringing up Dust or Dust Breeding (Duchamp’s Large Glass with Dust Motes). The work had been sitting horizontally in Duchamp’s studio and collecting dust for a year.
