CHALK MOON, 2019 | chalk on found stipple (chalk) engraving | 285 mm diameter shadow float mounted on black board 470 x 470 mm
Made from one of two circular stipple engravings by William Wynne Ryland that I found in a junk shop in Margate. This one shows Venus presenting Helen of Troy to Paris, Prince of Troy. The engraving are from 1781, the same year William Herschel discovered the planet Uranus. Helen has some association with the moon. I started work on this on July 20, the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
